Soon after buying our first group of Alpacas, all males (above) in 2004 as pets, we decided to make a business of breeding Alpacas and QHA was born. We have grown steadily since 2004 with births each summer we now maintain  a herd of around 20-25.

Unlike many breeders, we have specialised in producing our own home-grown Alpacas in a variety of colours from white to black and  all shades of brown in between.  We think this gives our herd a special beauty, and you can judge for yourself by looking at the picture gallery at the foot of this page.  Our Alpacas are brought up in a small herd environment and they are all halter-trained and manageable - ideal as pets in the paddock or for starting your own small herd.

At QHAlpacas we appreciate the good things that can come from sharing your life with these amazing creatures.  The simple things of life have become more important: the state of the pasture, the daily weather, haymaking,  the  change in the seasons and the annual birth of cria.  We think that many other people would benefit from taking the chance to own some Alpacas.  We are breeding and nurturing a small herd of different coloured Huacayas (and one white Suri).  We started from scratch, learning an awful lot as we went along.  We know a great deal more now, but we are still more than able to understand the concerns, questions and needs of a first-time buyer, and are always happy to share our knowledge.

Many people ask us "'Why keep Alpacas ?" rather than horses, donkeys or even sheep?  There are lots of reasons of course - cost, ease of looking after them, their cleanliness, their intelligence, character and gracefulness. The real answer is that once you have the privilege of getting close to some Alpacas grazing peacefully or seeing their cria playing, you'll appreciate why they are unique, and why you'll want some of your own. If you're thinking of buying some Alpacas, come and see us, and you'll understand what we mean.

Feel free to contact us with questions, comments or to arrange a visit.  If you are a new owner, or a prospective one, we will be happy to help share the secrets of the good life with Alpacas.

Please contact us by email at enquiries@qhalpacas.co.uk or telephone us on 01797 270 378 to visit us or for advice about owning , caring for or breeding alpacas. If we cannot help we can put you in touch with others more expert than we are, but we will always be happy to share our own knowledge and experience.
